Accountability tools

Having a greater sense of agency through MAAN’s citizen education platforms, citizens will now be armed with the tools and resources needed to acquire in-depth and practical knowledge on socio-economic issues to help create an agenda or action plan for reform. These tools include already existing knowledge on past collective actions, public budgets, monitoring mechanisms, action research, etc.

Public Accountability Index

MAAN will develop an “Accountability Index Report” to assess the level of public accountability and to propose/promote solutions and reforms for best practices and good governance. The assessment will be done through the evaluation of the performance of public institutions on the quantitative and qualitative proportions, in terms of accountability, transparency, integrity, and responsibility. A methodology that will correspond to the aims of the index will be proposed, which will include different factors and indicators relative to the level of accountability. The report aims at measuring the Lebanese situation in terms of public accountability in accordance with international standards.
Following the assessment, MAAN will put forth various recommendations to improve and strengthen public accountability. The propositions will be based on the results from the initial assessment and will address the different problems regarding the accountability system, either in terms of institutional frameworks or public awareness.
